Next week, on The Things They Read…

Well, perhaps not next week, but in the coming weeks I have some great reviews planned! Despite not having a review mailbox (PO boxes ain’t cheap) listed on the blog, I am always open to receiving books to review! My list tends to lean toward books that have been out a while, so receiving newer books is always a great incentive to keep up to date on the current publishing scene. So, what do we have in store?

Read This Next ,Sandra Newman and Howard Mittelmark, Harper Collins 2010. Divided into topics such as family and politics, Read This Next is chock full of “500 of the best books you’ll ever read.” Quite a bold statement if I ever read one, so I’m excited to feel this one out. I don’t plan to review the book but rather the books it recommends. I’ll read a few books that I’ve never heard of in topics I usually don’t seek out, and write my reviews of those recommendations. It’s like the review copy that keeps on giving!

Ten Walks/Two Talks, Jon Cotner and Andy Fitch, Ugly Duckling Presse 2010. From what I can tell, this beautiful little book is a collection of dialogues, whether inner or between Cotner and Fitch, that happen on the streets of Manhattan. I can’t wait to dive in!

Damn Sure Right , Meg Pokrass, Press 53 2011. You probably know Meg, from BLIP, Fictionaut, or any of the other places where she is busy writing short fiction or talking about short fiction. I’m excited to read her debut collection of flash fiction!

I have other books that have so graciously been sent to us to review that I have yet to organize and catalog, so those are coming as well! Hooray to a new month, new authors, and new stories!

Also on my to-read list…

I Am Going to Clone Myself Then Kill the Clone and Eat It by Sam Pink

A Widow’s Story: A Memoir by Joyce Carol Oates

Art and Madness: A Memoir of Love Without Reason by Anne Roiphe (ready for pick up at the library!!)

Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self by Danielle Evans

What’s on your list? What would you like to see reviewed/more of at TTTR? Happy weekend, my reading peeps!

I’m currently compiling a list of prospective reviewers for Jesus Angel Garcia’s debut novel, badbadbad, which comes out on New Pulp Press on May 20th. This book is not like anything else I’ve ever read. Plenty of information is on his web site. Interested parties, please drop us a note and I’ll see if the publisher will include you on the list. Thank you!
